Residents in Ibiza and professionals from the tourism sector have been facing curious, even funny, questions that tourists or foreigners ask them about the island of Ibiza for years. Oddly enough, Ibiza is a very famous island and at the same time unknown to many. Who has not visited it cannot come to understand that this island is much more than those that appears on TV or in booklets. There are some very curious questions:
1. Is there a train in Ibiza? No, neither train nor tram. It is a small island so a train does not make any sense. A tram could become in some specific case but at the moment we do not have it.
2. In Ibiza can you go naked? No, in Ibiza we dress like the rest of the developed countries of the 21st century. In an island so cosmopolitan you can get together people of the most varied and during the summer season it is usual to see tourists dressed only in swimsuit or bikini due to high temperatures, but nothing beyond.
3. Is there an airport in Ibiza? Yes, in Ibiza we have one of the most important and busiest airports in Spain that works with a marked seasonality during the summer months. The Balearic Island that has no airport is Formentera, it is accessed by boat.
4. Ibiza for children? Of course! This island has a wide variety of products for all types of customers, and also there are beaches, hotels and services totally adapted for the little ones of the house. Ibiza is famous for its techno music tourism and renowned clubs but it is also much more.
5. Does Ibiza belong to the Canary Islands? No, Ibiza belongs to the Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera). Yes, Formentera is also part of the Balearic archipelago; do not confuse it with Fuerteventura that belongs to the Canarian archipelago.
6. Is there something open in winter? It is true that Ibiza is a very seasonal island and to enjoy 100% of all possibilities the easiest thing is to travel during the summer season. But every time there is more hotels and services like the Hotel Puchet open all year. In addition, the weather allows you to spend a great holiday outside the peak season so it is a great option to visit the island without crowds and at a better price.
7. Is the car essential in Ibiza? The truth is that renting a car during the holidays makes it much easier to tour the island at your own pace, without having to wait for schedules or planning. Although the automotive fleet has grown a lot in recent years and it can be a good option to rent a motorcycle if you want to move "further" or book a bike even use public transport if you plan to move relatively little.
8. Does it snow in Ibiza? Generally not, we usually have spring temperatures although in winter we can reach -3ºC, -4ºC at the highest points and north of the island. It is more usual to hail although there is a year in which it snows for a day or two. The snow does not get to set much time but it leaves us some great landscapes to take pictures.
9. Is the car still being used in Ibiza? Well, in popular festivals or fans who keep their old cars and have horses or mares to take them if they tend to go for walks, but it is not a generalized custom that is maintained over time. It is a sporadic activity that takes place during leisure time or holidays.
10. What is Eivissa? The name Eivissa is simply the Catalan translation of Ibiza. As in many other places where different official languages coexist, the names of towns and cities may vary. For example: is it Peking or Beijing? Florence or Firenze? Both are valid, they are translation differences.
Do you have any question more? If you have ever been one of these questions by the head or have heard other similar, do not hesitate to tell us and include them in the next list of "Curiosities about Ibiza".
